This Thursday 11th December we will gather outside Manchester City FC’s offices, calling on the Board to ensure that all of their staff are paid the Living Wage.
We will gather at 12:30pm outside the club shop at Etihad Stadium, take photos for the press, and if we’re in good singing voice we’ll sing a few specially modified Christmas carols! A delegation will then head down to the City Office at the stadium to hand in a giant Christmas card asking the club to pay the Living Wage.
Ding Dong Merrily on High
The Premier League is blinging:
Ding Dong verily the sky
Is riv’n with workers singing
Gloria, our living costs are rising!
E’vn so here below, below
The football games are playing
And “lo, io io!”
The workers are still waiting
Gloria, just pay the Living Wage!
You don’t have to be a Manchester City supporter – all who support the idea of super-rich football clubs paying a Living Wage, are welcome to join us. That said, if you are a City fan, please wear a City shirt if you have one.
This is part of a week of protests by fans at other Premier League Clubs and Citizens UK over poverty pay for non playing staff at football clubs (credit for the above song also goes to Citizens). Meanwhile, we at the GM Living Wage Campaign are an equal opportunities criticiser – if fans of any other clubs want to get active around their own teams, get in touch and let’s see what we can do!
